Lack or Excess Stomach Fat Improve Sleep
Having extreme sleep deprivation affects the accumulation of fat in the stomach especially in people younger age. Lack or excess of sleep most easily make a full belly fat.
Research that has been published in the journal Sleep, as quoted Wednesday (03/03/2010) showed that African-American youth and Hispanic who have short or long sleep duration has increased a greater abdominal fat than those who slept normally during the night 6-7 hours.
The results showed that the participants under the age of 40 years, either short or long sleep duration is associated with increased body mass index or Body Mass Index (BMI) is significant. Because associated with subcutaneous adipose tissue or subcutaneous adipose tissue (SAT) and visceral adipose tissue or visceral adipose tissue (VAT) so that hoard fat.
Compared with people who sleep 6-7 hours during the night, people who slept the night for five hours or less experienced an average increase in BMI 1.8 higher and greater accumulation of SAT and VAT 42 cm, 13 cm. While those who slept the night for eight hours or more has increased BMI 0.8 higher, also accumulated VAT SAT 20 cm and 6 cm larger.
But apparently no significant relationship between sleep duration with changes in abdominal fat in the participants over the age of 40 years.
Researchers conducted a study of 1107 people in the IRAS (Insulin Resistance Atherosclerosis Study) Family Study. Data collected from 332 African-Americans and 775 Hispanic men with an average age of 41.7 years of age with an age range 18-81 years.
In the group of African-American participants and Hispanics, those with greater sleep deprivation experienced during the five-year increase in fat.
G. Christian Hairston, MD, assistant professor of internal medicine at Wake Forest University School of Medicine in Winston-Salem, NC, says that sleep is important for people of all races and ethnicities.
However, there are reports of ethnic minorities extreme behavior in sleep duration. Makes them at risk for metabolic disorders such as obesity and diabetes.
"When sleep is essential to maintaining a healthy weight," said Hairston.
BMI Categories:
1. Body mass index of less than 19 belong to the thin group.
2. Values into the group of 19 to 24.9 is ideal.
3. Enter a value between 25 to 29.9 overweight group (fat).
4. If you reach the value of 30 or more then that person into the obese group.
How to calculate BMI mengkuadratkan height value (in units of meters). Then the value of body weight (in kilograms) divided by the square of the height.
For example one 30-year-old woman weighing 60 kg and height 160 cm (1.6 meters). How to calculate the heights of the first times mengkuadratkan X 1.6 2.56 1.6 results. Then the value of weight divided by the multiplication of the heights of 60: 23.43 2.56 results. Mean BMI values of women amounted to 23.43 and get into the group of ideal / normal.
